In the age of social distancing protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic, many hearing care practitioners are transitioning to telehealth or teleaudiology solutions for remote patient appointments, fittings, and adjustments.
In a new blog posting by Suzanne Younker, AuD, CCC-A, FAA, director of telehealth at Your Hearing Network, Younker provides step-by-step instructions on how to perform several different remote appointment scenarios including in-home patient/provider-in-home and patient-in-office/provider-at-home, as well as directions for how to make sure both parties have the correct equipment and technology to connect successfully without interruption.
Another blog posting discusses the option of utilizing the Your TeleHearing Care service from Your Hearing Network (YHN), a national network of independent hearing health and audiology professionals. The service can help hearing care providers get set up with an effective telehealth care program by performing a needs assessment; ordering and installing necessary equipment; helping ensure HIPAA/regulatory compliance confirmation and consent; providing training for the hearing care provider and facilitator; and making suggestions with regard to office workflow and logistics. Many of the same services offered in the practice can be transitioned to a remote care setting including several kinds of testing, cochlear implant programming, fittings, and ear impressions.
