Deborah F. Adamczyk, MA, master teacher and speech-language pathologist at North Allegheny School District in Pittsburgh will become Director of School Services in Speech-language pathology at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) this month.
In her new position, Adamczyk will provide staff leadership to enhance the Association’s schools speech-language pathology endeavors. She will also be charged with facilitating the growth, shaping the education and practice of speech language pathology as related to the delivery of services in the schools, promoting wide dissemination of professional knowledge, advocating for schools speech-language pathologists to related professional organizations and federal agencies, and assist in developing, preparing, directing, and managing of grants and contracts for federal/private funding.
“With an increased emphasis on IDEA and to ensure that school-age students are provided with the speech and language services they need, it is important that a critical mass of well-prepared and well-supported speech-language pathologists are ready to meet the needs of all students in the future,” Adamczyk says. “In my new position, I am looking forward to the challenge of shaping the direction and providing resources to ensure ASHA can meet and exceed the needs of our members who work in the schools.”

Adamczyk received her bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and her master’s in speech-language pathology from the University of Pittsburgh.
