A NY Post reporter writes about his experience wearing Moverio smart glasses—otherwise known as “augmented reality” glasses—as part of a pilot accessibility program for the deaf and hard of hearing at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
During the musical “Come from Away,” reporter Nicolas Vega describes words and lyrics appearing right underneath the performance as if they were “floating” in midair. The glasses, Epson Moverios, are part of a partnership between software company GalaPro and the theatre company The Schubert Organization to make Broadway shows more accessible to hearing- and vision-impaired attendees. The GalaPro app provides subtitles and audio description.
