The EAR Inc Adjustable Screener & Fit Check is a compact, hand-held screener designed to quickly screen hearing acuity and check the attenuation and fit of hearing protection. A wrist strap is included to minimize risk of dropping. It is reportedly simple and easy to use. The fully-calibrated pulse-tone generator features 5 decibel levels (40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 dB) and 4 frequencies (500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz).
EAR Inc CEO Garry G. Gordon notes that the screener is also an excellent marketing tool. It can be used, for example, during seminars to demonstrate hearing loss, and as a promotional item for retailers. Hearing care providers can use the screener as a giveaway to their clients, who will then test their friends and generate referrals, says Gordon. The screener is reportedly inexpensive and can also be sold directly to the consumer to further increase referrals.
For distribution to international markets, packaging is labeled in English and 12 other languages, as is the included operation booklet.
The device uses a 2-second pulse tone and is powered by 3 AAA batteries. It is small in size (2.2 in x 5.5 in x 1.7 in or 56.5 mm x 136 mm x 43 mm) and is lightweight (4.2 oz or 120 g).
