A panel of experts convened to study the cluster of symptoms related to “Havana Syndrome” have concluded that they may have been caused by an “external energy source,” according to an article in The Washington Post.
The findings “suggest a foreign power could have mounted attacks on US diplomats, intelligence officers, and military personnel serving overseas,” according to the Post article. The symptoms, which include vertigo, dizziness, headaches, and ear pain/tinnitus, among others, were initially reported by some diplomats stationed at the US Embassy in Havana, Cuba, followed by government personnel in China, as well as hundreds of others stationed at posts globally, according to the article.
A CIA report in January found no evidence to support the theory that a foreign government was mounting an attack on government workers, instead, attributing most of the symptoms to environmental factors or medical conditions.
An earlier report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) attributed a possible cause of the symptoms to “directed, pulsed radio frequency energy appears to be the most plausible mechanism in explaining these cases.”
Some people have reported a sudden onset of symptoms while in a hotel room or office, while others were reportedly stricken outdoors.
