GN Hearing announced that it will donate $5 to the GN Hearing Scholarship for every ReSound ONE, Beltone Imagine, and Audigy AGX hearing aid sold in February, Black History Month.
GN created the scholarship last year to support Black students pursuing a career in audiology and hearing sciences, with a focus on students attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Shamine Alves and Darchayla Lewis, both seniors pursuing degrees in Hampton University’s Communicative Sciences and Disorders program, were named the first recipients of the GN Hearing Scholarship, receiving $10,000 ($5,000 per semester) for the 2021/2022 academic year.
The GN Hearing Scholarship is a community educational initiative championed by Black@GN, an employee resource group at the company. The goal of this new fund is to help increase the number of Black audiologists within the field.
“Great hearing care begins with outstanding hearing care providers,” said Scott Davis, president of GN Hearing North America. “By supporting this employee-led effort, we hope to improve diversity within the profession, which in turn, we hope will help improve overall access to all people who could benefit from hearing care.”
