A new bill introduced in the Washington State Legislature may make coverage for exams, fittings, and hearing instruments, among other things, mandatory for health insurance companies beginning in January 1, 2023, according to an article in The Olympian.
House Bill 1854Â ,introduced by Rep. Emily Wicks (D-WA), would require insurance companies to cover up to $5,000 in costs related to hearing devices for adults or children, every three years. According to the article, several previous versions of the bill have not made it through the legislature, however, a recent health impact review found evidence to support improved health outcomes as a result of increased access to hearing aid coverage for young people.
