Report Shows Out-of-Pocket Costs for Medicare Advantage May Still be High

A new report published in Health Affairs, indicates Medicare Advantage customers are still paying significant out-of-pocket costs for coverage with the plan, according to an article on the HealthPayerIntelligencenews website.

According to the study, which analyzed data from the 2016 Cost Supplement to the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey, out-of-pocket expenses comprised 79% of spending for hearing care among Medicare beneficiaries with supplemental coverage.

The article goes on to say that hearing services accounted for the largest out-of-pocket expense, with Medicare beneficiaries averaging $1,526 and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries averaging $1,569.
