The Minnesota Academy of Audiology (MAA) will hold its annual Winter Conference on February 27 to 28, 2009. The "Best Practices" theme features innovative courses designed to enhance the practice of audiology.
The event will take place at the Sheraton Minneapolis South in Bloomington, Minn.
For the first time, the conference will offer two ABA Tier 1 courses on ethics, and coding and reimbursement. Gloria Garner, AuD, Robert Margolis, PhD, and Aparna Rao, PhD—all members of the AAA ethics committee—will present the Tier 1 ethics course. Always a highly requested topic, the coding and reimbursement Tier 1 course will be presented by Paul Pessis, AuD, a past president of AAA and current member of the AAA C&R committee. The material is also geared to those who need ABA recertification.
The conference will spotlight a range of topics, such as cochlear implant candidacy, pre- and post-implant speech perception testing, music-induced hearing loss risk and prevention strategies, and best practices in the hearing
health care profession. Emily Farmer, AuD, and René Gifford, PhD, are presenting the cochlear implant topics. Brian Fligor, ScD, will share his expertise in music-induced hearing loss, and Barry Freeman, PhD, will discuss best practices and future insights for hearing health care professionals.
The conference represents a combined total of 12 CE contact hours, including 0.6 Tier 1 hours.
An extensive roster of national and local exhibitors will occupy the exhibit hall. Social events, including
a Friday evening reception and silent auction to raise scholarship money for
students with hearing loss, are also planned.
