The University of Auckland and the University of Otago in New Zealand have received approval to begin trials utilizing MDMA—a psychoactive drug also known as “Ecstasy”—to treat tinnitus, Stuff.com reported.
In previous placebo-controlled studies, researchers have given study participants a small dose of the drug; some participants reported a decrease in tinnitus symptoms, according to the article. Obviously, given MDMA’s reputation as a “party drug” and its status as a controlled substance, there could be legal issues with recommending the drug as a treatment for tinnitus.
I like to know more about this trial and if it was successful, and what’s happened since March 2017, as I also suffer from tinnitus 24/7?
Can some contact me, about this, please?

I’ve had severe tinnitus for 7 years as the result of a concussion. Sound devices, TRT, CBT, and various drugs have not been helpful at all. I have a few calm days and other days are debilitating especially when it goes on for a week or longer. I am 66 years old and have been active all my life…. this is sinking me.
I open to any study…please consider me.
As someone with what feels like ‘major’ i.e. chronic 24/7 tinnitus, sometimes severe – the endless mosquito sound changes to the white noise distortion you hear when a waterfall pours in your ear, then finally my drums start pulsing – I applied for this trial but was turned down because I had the wrong receptors or something.
I’ve never taken MDMA but I’ve never had a moment’s complete silence since 1997 and cannot imagine what the tranquility would be like, anymore.
As someone who lives with minor tinnitus, this would be so huge. I’d love to learn more about why it works. I’ve never tried MDMA, but I’m not opposed to it.
