California-based telehealth startup Pure Tinnitus announced that it has developed Pure Tinnitus Group Coaching as a way to provide evidence-based tinnitus management techniques via Zoom video.
The Covid-19 pandemic has made living with tinnitus more challenging. The pandemic has led to increased social isolation, staying at home, and stress around healthcare. All of these factors can negatively impact someone struggling with tinnitus, according to Pure Tinnitus.
Pure Tinnitus Group Coaching teaches monthly workshops from an audiologist with the support of a positive online community. The monthly Zoom sessions are designed to teach tinnitus management fundamentals: cognitive behavioral techniques, sound therapy, sleep habits, stress management, and relaxation exercises.
The program was created by Dr Ben Thompson, AuD, who has completed years of research into existing tinnitus telehealth resources, according to the announcement. Thompson found that although there were plenty of tinnitus apps and local support groups, the tinnitus apps “lacked the personal touch to be able to ask questions and have them answered quickly and existing support groups typically “did not systematically teach how to get better.”
Telehealth has helped to “rapidly expand accessibility to healthcare,” as individuals with tinnitus have historically been restricted to services within their local area. Today, patients have access to various online programs that can help them better manage their tinnitus.
Dr Ben Thompson is an audiologist and tinnitus expert and the founder of PureTinnitus.com. He decided to specialize in tinnitus management because of his interests in mindfulness, music, and psychology. He completed his residency at University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and is a past board member of the California Academy of Audiology. Via telehealth, Dr Thompson provides tinnitus retraining therapy online. He hosts a YouTube channel, podcast, and tinnitus group coaching program to help individuals with hearing loss and tinnitus.

I follow Dr. Thompson on Youtube and his channel given me hope. I have tinnitus which for several months I had almost got ride of it. Thru diet, exercise,,and counseling I had achieved small bursts of silence. Then I made the mistake of taking the second vaccine for the virus. It virtually wiped out my gains. Plus it brought on hyperacusis. The ringing I can habituate with. Sleeping 6-7 hours nightly with the help of my wide-x hearing aids. My Tinnitus Center here on Long Island and Dr. Althos Patsalides (he has pioneered successful surgery on pulsatile tinnitus) BOTH have confirmed a rash of or spike of tinnitus with the vaccine.
Is Dr. Thompson available for a private session. I am a patient of Julian Cowan Hill in London. Both of you have kept me going.
Hope to get a response.
Stay healhy and safe

Hello Warren, this is Dr. Thompson. I happened to look at this article and see your comment. Yes, we have audiologists available for consultation. Please contact us via email at [email protected] – we will be glad to help.
What does this program cost?
Dr. Henderson,
I have had tinnitus for over 18 years. I had habituated to it, but last year the tinnitus spiked after taking medication. Most recently, it happened again… another spike after taking a different medication. Right now the tinnitus is beyond severe. It has become debilitating. I am in need of help to regain the baseline I had achieved before the spikes.
I am interested in individual counseling as well as group counseling. Please let me know how I can sign up.
Thank you, Albert Jordan
