A 5-day “Tinnitus and Hyperacusis Therapy Masterclass” will be held on March 3 to 7 at Birkbeck College, University of London, featuring several world-class guest speakers on the topic, including Richard Salvi (USA), Brian Moore (UK), and Don McFerran (UK). Course highlights reportedly include:
• Lectures by Richard Salvi, PhD, from Center for Hearing and Deafness, University at Buffalo. In his comprehensive lecture, Dr Salvi will review the evidence base and latest research on neuronal plasticity and its relation to tinnitus and hyperacusis.
• Brian Moore, PhD, from the University of Cambridge will focus on perceptual measurements of the characteristics of tinnitus and their applications in understanding the causes and origins of tinnitus.
• A lecture by Don McFerran, FRCS, from Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust will focus on syndromic tinnitus and medical treatments
• Practical training and core theory lectures by conference organizer, Hashir Aazh, will be covered on topics including: how to apply Motivational Interviewing (MI) in facilitating behaviour change; how to apply Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills in alleviating anxiety in people experiencing troublesome tinnitus and hyperacusis; how to embrace client-centred counselling approach in various therapeutic interventions for patients with tinnitus and hyperacusis; how to conduct Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT); and how to set up or further develop your tinnitus and hyperacusis therapy service for adults and children.
The masterclass is reportedly accredited for 30 CPD points by British Academy of Audiology, 3.0 CEUs by American Academy of Audiology, 40 CPD points by Audiological Society of Australia, and 30 CPD by British Society of Hearing aid Audiologists
