The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced it will be offering a new telehealth option for veterans to connect their hearing aids to their phones via Bluetooth, according to a post on the VA’s blog.
The Enterprise Remote Tuning of Hearing Instruments (ERTHI) program, in conjunction with the VA Audiology and Speech Pathology Program Office, will allow veterans to interact “virtually” with audiologists, who can help fine tune and adjust the hearing aid’s settings to fit the needs of its user.
According to the posting, audiology teams from several VA hospitals and healthcare systems began testing and implementing remote audiology hearing aid apps prior to the launch to ensure they worked with the VA infrastructure and were safe and easy to use.
The VA has long been a leader in teleaudiology services, in many cases blazing a trail for the US hearing healthcare commercial market.
